The large woven bowl is flat on the bottom and makes a beautiful tray for serving or display. Imagine the medium bowl on your dining room table filled with warm bread or fruit. The small bowl is a beautiful way to hold jewelry or keys, or it may be filled with small treats and used as a gift basket.

Each woven bowl has a loop on the back for hanging—the trio looks gorgeous on a blank wall!

Meticulously crafted from naturally dyed sisal fibers threaded over a core of locally-gathered forest grasses. The weavers begin in the middle of the basket, carefully threading the sisal around and around to create this beautiful design.  The tea color is created when the naturally-white sisal fibers are steeped in Rwandan-grown tea leaves!

  • Each woven bowl has a loop on the back for hanging
  • Available individually or as a set of 3 (one of each size)
  • Dimensions:
    -small bowl 7″d
    -medium bowl 12″d
-large tray 16"d (base is flat, like a tray)
Artisan Story

Duteraninkunga Cooperative
Let’s Help Each Other Cooperative

Duteraninkunga Cooperative [Doo ‘Ter Ah Ning ‘Hunga] was formed in 2012 by women who were members of a community savings and loan group. They found that a number of the women knew how to weave, and those weavers taught other women from the group. Together, they found some places to sell their woven bowls, but struggled with inconsistent sales. The weavers of Duteraninkunga formalized their group and became a new artisan partner of Azizi Life. They were happy to find that the fair wage payment offered was significantly more than what other customers normally paid. This income has enabled the weavers to be able to afford to go to the doctor when someone in their family was ill, and to have more resources for sending their children to school.

Several weavers from Duteraninkunga have become custom sampling specialists, and others excel at crafting baskets which are larger than most weavers have ever made in their whole lives!

We hope that in the future, every member will own her own home with running water and electricity.

Brand Story
Azizi Life partners with rural Rwandans to bring fair trade beauty to your life and theirs. Azizi Life’s vision: To participate in local initiatives for the development of Rwandan communities, working towards physical and spiritual wholeness for all.

Azizi Life is committed to paying an agreed-upon fair wage to the artisans as soon as we receive their products. The additional income from the sale of their art allows the craftspeople & their families to afford many things that they struggled to get before.

Having the money available to invest in these kinds of things provides a real sense of security and hope for the future for the artisan and her whole family.
