Social Impact | Fair Trade
With this purchase, you are supporting the livelihoods of the master-weavers of this typhoon-battered region. Your contribution sustains every part of the production process, from planting, to harvesting, to designing, crafting and curing the finished products. Every purchase of a woven rug provides a dream weaver with the resources to educate one of her children for up to three months.

*Due to the handmade nature of our pieces, there may be slight variations in size, color, and pattern from item to item.

  • Size: 4ft diameter
  • Color: Natural base with white triangle
  • Material: Frimbistylis globulosa ("Ticog" grass) fibers are used as base. Patterns are embroidered with dyed buri palm leaves.

Cleaning and spot-treating:
Use the upholstery brush on your vacuum and gently sweep it across the surface to remove any dust or dirt that may have settled in the crevices of your woven item.

For spot-treating a stain, first remove any solid material from around the soiled area. Then, apply a mild cleaning solvent. Dampen a white cloth with clean water and wipe away any residue of the solvent—do not over-saturate the natural fibers. Lightly pat the area dry with a white towel.

Fabric linings can be spot-treated with gentle liquid detergent and a damp white cloth. Rub the cloth and detergent over the stain until the stain is removed, and then let the fabric air dry.

Maintenance:
Natural fibers—like seagrass and bamboo—are vulnerable to color fading when left out in the sun. To protect the vibrancy of your woven item, we recommend limiting direct exposure to sunlight or rotating your item to even out the natural fading.

Safety first:
Our mats are handwoven with natural fibers, which can be slippery on certain surfaces. To avoid accidents, use a non-slip material or tape underneath the mat. Placing heavy furniture on top of the mat is another great way to securely hold it in its place.

OUR STORY takes roots in the coastlands dotting the Indian and the Pacific oceans, where, traditionally, indigenous people lived in stilt shacks with roofs covered in nipa palm. Today, nipa huts have come to symbolize the Filipino value of bayanihan, the spirit in which the people of a community come together in an effort to achieve a common goal. It is this sense of communal unity from which NEEPA HUT draws its inspiration.

OUR MISSION is to extend the value of the spirit in which the people of a community come together in an effort to achieve a common goal; by promoting and preserving the skills, crafts, and heritage of artisans from areas most affected by natural disasters, poverty, or overdevelopment.

OUR VALUES are inspired by the artisans’ dedication to the traditional methods of their crafts and their commitment to the sustainability of their land and its natural products. All of our goods are carefully selected, of premium quality, handmade and locally sourced in fair trade. Our vendors themselves come from the communities that create our specially chosen collections.
